Buckles
I questioned what it is that I do all day. I sleep a lot and
then I watch TV. Sometimes I write a little if I can think of something to
write. As I said, I watch a lot of TV. I like NCIS, NCIS Los Angeles, NCIS New
Orleans, and other detective-like programs.
As a very young man of about six, I spent a lot of time with
my grandfather in California. He had a TV and there were some children’s programs
that played during part of the day. I really liked Beany Boy. There was Beany Boy who had a cap
with a propeller on the top, Cecil the Sea Sick Sea Serpent, Captain Huffenpuff,
the Leaking Lena, and Dishonest John, the villain of all the shows. He
was always defeated by the good Beany Boy and Cecil. At one time I had a beanie
with a propeller on the top, I wish I had it now.
I realize that I must have been pretty immature for my age,
but maybe it was because it was the only program during the day, unless you
wanted to watch cooking shows or maybe some stupid soap. As soon as Grandpa
Horn got home from work the greatest show on earth would come on, and we would
watch it until bedtime. What, you may ask, was the greatest show on earth? It
was wrestling. My grandfather insisted that it was all real even when they beat
each other silly with a stool or chair, but it was fun to watch. There were
such characters as Andre the Giant, George “The Animal Steele,” “The Vampire,”
Freddie Blassie, Pepper Gomez, Hay Stack Calhoon, and grandpa’s favorite and
mine, Gorgeous George. He had a full head of blond curly hair that looked like
he had been to a beauty parlor, but we loved it when he stepped into the ring.
He always won except when the person he was wrestling cheated. That is what Grandpa
said anyway.
