The Good Samaritan?

Last week I went down to Nevada to see my brother and cousin to see how they were doing. I like to actually look at them and see for myself how they are. I stayed at the Quality Inn on the road down to the lake and dam. I have stayed there before and really like it. Before I checked in, I went to see Richard my cousin and visited with him and his wife Carol. It was a pleasant visit and then I headed to the motel. They had me stay on a different area of the motel than I was accustomed to. It was getting on towards dark. Because I had not stayed in that area before and I was having trouble finding the room 115. I started up the walkway which was two 9 “ bricks wide, so it was pretty narrow. I had just started up the path and I fell into the rocks. I lit on my right side. It bruised my shoulder and my thigh. As I lay there trying to get my breath back and start trying to get up there were three people that walked by just at my feet, they looked at me and just kept walking. I was finally able to get up from the rock pile, find my phone, keys, and glasses.
I thought afterwards that they probably thought I had been drinking, and so didn’t stop.  I’m not sure if that was what they thought, because they didn’t talk to me. They just looked at me laying there and walked on. I don’t think that I could have left anyone laying there in the rocks or anywhere else without stopping and seeing what I could do. If I couldn’t help, I would have called 911 or the office of the motel for help. I’m very happy that I was finally able to extradite myself and find the room and lay down for a few minutes before going to the car and getting more of the things I had brought. I did leave the ice chest in the car. I just didn’t want to try to carry it up the narrow path.
I told the manager the next day about the poor lighting and the narrow path, but I’m sure that there will be no change in either.  I just got to have my say. I wonder what happened to the Good Samaritan?
There are actually many Good Samaritans around. One that has been brought to my mind was a woman that I met at Costco one day. I had gone in the store to purchase some of the items on the continuous list that seems to always appear, especially if I get the hop-in-the-car bug. When this bug hits there is very little I can do about it other than hop in the car and try to outrun the bug.
I have found that often hot dogs from Costco or breakfast burritos from McDonald’s seem to be the right inoculation against the hop-in-the-car bug. At any rate I was at Costco trying to outrun the bug when my right shoe came untied. It is quite difficult to outrun the bug with an untied shoe. It seems to always be the same shoe. So, there I was with my shoe untied, no where to sit and tie it, and having a problem bending over to tie it, when what should appear but very kind woman who looked to be about thirty-five or so. She said “Can I help you?”

She then knelt down and tied my shoe for me. She was standing up again and said, “Oh I’m sorry, I double knotted it. I have small children.” I told her that it was just fine and that I appreciated what she had done. I looked down at my shoe and when I looked up, she was gone. I wonder if she placed her finger next to her nose and up the chimney she rose. I really did appreciate what she had done. I still double knot my right shoe each morning and my shoe stays tied the rest of the day. What a wonderful service she provided for me.
Everyone that crosses your path may not be a Good Samaritan, but there are many more than we recognize.

  1. What familiar feelings this evokes. Just a slowness of thinking, of feeling just a little off, kind of like when you have a disagreement with someone, and think back later with thoughts of "I should of said, I oughta said, if I could have said, always too late with that smart ass reply. I am in early stage, and am familiar with being just a little slow. And I used to be so smart and sassy!
