Things I Should Not Have Done
There are many times in my life that I have done things that
I should not have done but did anyway. The statute of limitations is past so I
shall write about some of them.
This is not from playing tag. It is a picture of my car that went off a cliff on the way home from Dixie College. I have always had God looking over me. |
I have always liked to play tag and some of us got the idea
to play bumper tag with our cars. This was not a really great idea. The idea was
to bump the car ahead of you and then take off and see if they could catch you
and bump into the back bumper of your car. There were three of us in different
cars playing. It seemed to be going fine until heading down towards the lake,
one of the cars stopped instead of just going on around the corner, and I hit
the back end which would have been fine except that a bus was coming down the
road that met at the intersection. I just about lost one of my good friends
that night. The bus barely missed his car, and he was safe. When we stopped to
look at our cars, there were several new dents. It was okay for everyone except
for the one who had to face his father and then not get to use the car for some
time.
One time at the high school a group came from Japan to visit
and were going through everything in each room. It was a real nuisance. They
were even taking some of the lesson plans from the filing cabinets. This was to
go on all day. I wrote a note saying that all of the visitors were to meet out on
the bleachers of the football field and there to be addressed by the
superintendent from the district. The secretary got the note and read it over
the speaker, and all of the visitors went out to the bleachers to wait for the
superintendent, who strangely enough, never appeared. It was really not a very
nice thing to do.
We had one teacher who was always complaining about how long
it took for teachers to finish their lunches and get back to the classroom. It
was a daily complaint about all of the other teachers. One time as the teacher
stepped into the restroom, I locked the door. One of the custodians let them
out after the tardy bell had rung. There was no more discussion at lunch about
late teachers.
I have written before about finding dynamite, but I don’t think
that I have told about what we did with the dynamite that we still had not
blown up. When a friend of mine who lived in a home overlooking the lake got
married, most of those who went down to the river and found the dynamite were
there. We took what was left and went down to a place that they called McKeeversville
and put the rest of the dynamite under an access road and railroad track. A long
fuse was set and we were back to the reception when it went off. We all had alibis,
but no one ever even asked us about the explosion and the damage. They just
replaced the track and fixed the road.
These are some of the worst things I have ever done so far.
Do I wish I had not done them? Yes, but
I can’t go back and undo them, and how do you make amends for all the evil things
you have done? You can’t so just don’t do them in the first place. I am doing
the best that I can to not cause problems for others. Sometimes it works and
sometimes I think I may have slipped back into causing problems again. I believe
that God has forgiven me and that is a good feeling.
